The old colonial town where George Washington grew up (family owned the ferry crossing the river into town,) Fredericksburg was also the site of the famous Civil War Battle of Fredericksburg, in December, 1862. Today, the picturesque old town remains, but is surrounded by bustling modern urban Fredericksburg, which spreads into South Stafford County, VA north of the Rappahannock and Northern Spotsylvania County, south of the river! Our city is a major tourist destination and a great place to live!
